چکیده

II, 5 subjects). Systolic time intervals were measured every 15 min from simultaneous ECG, phonocardiogram and carotid pulse tracings. Heart rate, total electromechanical systole and left ventricular ejection time (LVET) were not changed at any time from pre-alcohol values and, except for a small (5 mm Hg) and transient change in diastolic pressure in Group II, aortic pressures also were unchanged. However, in Group I, after 60 min, at a blood ethanol of 74 + 3 mg%, left ventricular depression was manifested by increased pre-ejection period (PEP) from 90 + 2 to 96 3.1 msec, isovolumic time (IVT) from 44± 3.5 to 52 4 (P <.01), and PEP/LVET ratio from 0.299 + 0.009 to 0.323 0.01 (P < .05). Further depression occurred at two hours with blood ethanol at 111 + 6 mg%. Doubling ingestion rate (Group II) produced reduction of left ventricular performance at 30 min at a blood level of 50± 3 mg%. Feeding of isocaloric sucrose in 5 subjects (Group III) as a control produced a decrease in PEP, LVT, and PEP/LVET. Thus, alcohol in nonintoxicating doses elicits a depression of cardiovascular function in normal unhabituated subjects.

Mechanism of myocardial contractile depression by clinical concentrations of ethanol. A study in ferret papillary muscles.

Moderate alcohol intoxication in man, a ubiqitious social event, causes acute but reversible myocardial depression, the mechanism of which is unknown. We investigated whether this depression could be due to a direct effect of ethanol on the process of electromechanical coupling by simultaneously measuring the transmembrane action potential and contraction, or the cytosolic calcium transient (vi...

Effects of depression on myocardial perfusion scintigraphy [Persian]

Introduction: The relationship between depression and coronary artery disease is well established; however assessment of this relationship using functional and semi-quantitative imaging (myocardial perfusion scintigraphy) was lacking. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between the severity of depression and the severity of myocardial perfusion abno...

Comparison of plasma leptin levels in patients with normal, low and high risk myocardial perfusion scan [Persian]

Introduction: Leptin, secreted from adipose tissue may have some correlation with coronary artery disease according to some reports in literature. The mean concentration of plasma leptin in patients with normal and abnormal myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) and relation of leptin levels, independently to abnormality in MPI after correction for body mass index (BMI) was evaluated. Methods...

Experimental human endotoxemia is associated with depression of load-independent contractility indices: prevention by the lipid a analogue E5531.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of a novel lipopolysaccharide (LPS) antagonist, E5531, in blocking LPS-induced cardiac responses including myocardial depression (as assessed by relatively load-independent echocardiographic indices of contractility) in a human model of experimental endotoxemia. DESIGN Randomized, prospective, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial. SETTING ICU procedure r...

The Hemodynamic Effects of Drugs on Myocardial Oxygen Use

The circulatory responses to high equinalgesic doses of morphine are compared with those of pethidin. The decrease in mean arterial blood pressure in case of morphine was 28p.c., with a paralleled and identical decrease in total peripheral resistance and no negative inotropic effects.  Pethidine decreased blood pressure 54p.c., as a result of peripheral vasodilation of 46p.c. and a sharp drop...
